Government Arts College, Ranavav is situated in the Saurashtra region of Western Gujarat. It is entirely an initiative of the Government of Gujarat Department of Education and among the six Model Degree Colleges established in the year 2012 for the upliftment of the backward areas of the state by offering a three year programme for undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree. The college is affiliated to Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University, Junagadh and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f).

Ranavav is a taluka headquarter and is approximately 15 Kilometers from Porbandar city. Earlier the students from Ranavav and villages in its vicinity had to commute to Porbandar for pursuing Higher Education and consequently the Gross Enrolment Ratio in this region was very low. The Government of Gujarat addressed this need by establishing a degree college for the pursuance of the study of humanities. Most of the students studying in this college come from a variety of socio-economic groups like OBCs, SCs, STs, minority and EWS from open category. They are benefited with various government scholarships by the college. As such GACR has become a boon for the educational aspirants of the area.

With the establishing of Government Arts College in Ranavav, the students of this region have got an access to quality education at a negligible cost. Prior to its being shifted to its present-building in 2018, the college was housed in a separate section of the Government High School in Ranavav with limited infrastructure. On 17/12/2017, the newly constructed college building was inaugurated. The sprawling campus is spread over 5 acres and has ICT facilities that aid in providing quality higher education. It is surrounded by gardens creating serene and peaceful atmosphere.

Since its inception in 2012, GACR has demonstrated a keen interest and a commitment to the sustenance and promotion of an environment, favourable to the growth and development of an academic excellence. The objective of the teaching programme and training in the college is to achieve overall refinement of the students' perception not confined to the skills of the profession alone but also to create the right kind of intellect, as well as emotional cultivation to arrive at a level of composite creativity and thought.
